You know you might need to lighten up when you are doing a critical analysis of the tactics (Spray & Pray) and lack of disipline (none) used by the strike team in the opening minutes of "Tank Girl".
Lori Petty is pretty hot though. edited to add Jet (dark haired Naomi Watts) is pretty hot too.

I commented a a while ago about how if I didn't already know that the military-industrial complex/middle aged white guys were the bad guys I'd be looking forward to watching Avatar.
Since that time I've been bombarded by blogs, ads, trailers, and my own kids asking if we can go see it. I mean it looks cool, awesome special effects, and the trailers would seem to indicate a decent acting level. Even my own brother zeus_rex, talkss about the movie here
The more I'm bombarded by it, the more exposure I get to it, and the more I'm forced to think about it, the more I'm reminded of another movie.
Apocalypse Now.
In "Apocalypse Now", Special Forces Colonel Walter Kurtz has infiltrated a group of local nationals and is using them wage an irregular war (meaning outside the accepted rules of warfare) against not only America's and South Vietnam's enemies but against anyone Colonel Kurtz feels is a threat to him and his people. Including Americans.
This is portrayed as a bad thing. Colonel Kurtz is portrayed as a bloody thirsty mad man, who has lost all sense of moral self and right and wrong in his lust to protect those he cares about (nation and individual).
In "Avatar", we have a Special Forces type (combat decorated Marine Jake Sully) who infiltrates a group of local nationals and uses them wage an irregular war against America, err the Federation, err Earth, err his own people.
This is seemly portrayed as a good thing. Jake Sully is portrayed as man in love with a beautiful creature and her society. As a result he sacrifices his sense of moral self and abandons his former sense of right and wrong, embracing a new and better way.
Black is White, up is down, yes, you can have it both ways.

Ok, seriously people, why the fuck in every movie and every video game of this decade does the Army have to be the bad guys? Having just "won" Modern Warfare 2, I'm furious that I spent the last two levels shooting American soldiers...
Get the fuck over it guys. The world is full of enough threats out there, that the best we can do is kill our best and brightest?
